This year we are proud to introduce a special initiative for the first time ever, we are encouraging young speakers from our own state, half of them are talented women psychiatrists.
Nellore city is Head quarter of Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore District, the southern part of costal Andhra and it is located on the bank of Penna River. The city was historically known as Vikrama Simhapuri. The name "Nellore" originates from two Telugu words "Nelli-Ooru" Nelli refers the meaning of "Nelli" Tree (Indian goose berry) another name for Usiri Tree and Ooru means "Place" where this area ones upon a time known for Plenty of Nelli tress distributed geographically.
Nellore has been known for its historical and cultural signifi-cance. It has got sanctuaries, beaches and natural landscapes of paddy. Nellore city is known for agricultural and aqua culture. It is also famous for exquisite silk and cotton sarees of Venkatagiri and Paturu.
Nellore has been well known for its delicious local cuisine. This soil is famous for its authentic dishes such as Nellore Chapala Pulusu, Nellore style Karam dosa and tender delicious Malaikaja a sweet dish.
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan former president of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu former vice-president rose from this soil. Bezawada Gopala Reddy and N. Janardhana Reddy worked as chief ministers of unified Andhra Pradesh. Puchalapalli Sundaraiah was one of the founder member of CPM, The legendary singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, great poet Gunturu Seshendra Sarma, Film director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, veteran film actress Sarada and Vanisri are some of the popular personalities from this soil.
